The Martlet
The martlet sports feathers in place of legs and possesses an undersized beak. Unable to land, the martlet's perpetual flight represents a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and truth. Unable to easily secure a meal, the martlet's blunt beak symbolizes resolve and perseverance. An emblem of class, independence, and bravado, the martlet is an ideal companion on the journey through academia. Like the martlet, the champion handles business against all odds. Mission SLAC is dedicated to solving the student motivation problem by starting a cultural movement to change the way we look at high achievement by making school cool, once and for all. Blending academia with pop culture, surf/skate fashion, and an athletic mindset, SLAC's proactive spirit - deployed to students through apparel, school and dorm supplies, and online services engineered to meet the motivational demands of champion students - motivates students to give nothing less than their personal best day in and day out. In the process, SLAC shifts accountability in education from the school system to the student. SLAC's here to redefine the "slacker" image from underachiever to all-star, and in the process get you fired up to handle your business. Big things are in your future - study Like a champion. College dreams, though, are largely a product of foundational experiences; for many young students, college campus tours are integral to developing college goals. Yet, many under-funded schools are unable to pay for the school buses required to take students on these visits. The SLAC Campus Fund helps ensure these students crystallize their college dreams by allocating a portion of sale proceeds to schools in need to hire buses for class trips to college campuses. Through this effort, the SLAC Campus Fund aligns the goals of the up-and-coming champions with SLAC's mission to help students think big, get out there, and get it done right. A team player by nature, the founder knew the mass of solo work would require a "make-no-excuses-get-it-done-and-do-it-right" mindset. Consequently, the founder sought new ways to motivate himself to complete the project. Drawing on a passion for sports and fist-pounds, he came up with the first Study Like a Champion Pump-Up Sticker and stuck it to nearly everything he owned - notebooks, laptops, water bottles, frequented chairs in the library. The stickers provided the emotional support to keep spirits running high, and the idea stuck. Hundreds of fist pounds and one completed thesis later, SLAC was born. Solving the Motivation Problem With Style Soon thereafter, SLAC set out to solve a bigger problem- the negative connotation associated with academic success. As SLAC sees it, you're a student, you're on the path to forming and realizing dreams, you're on the path to going out and getting it. Big time stuff, the kind of stuff upon which legacies are built. To accomplish your mission you need confidence and spirit - to get it done despite the haters you have to be your own biggest fan. That's where SLAC comes in, equipping students with products and services tailored to breed success and boost swagger at every step on the academic path. The only brand for students whose products balance form with function, SLAC enables students to kill it in both the classroom and the street. |

The SLAC spirit is comprised of strength, relentlessness, curiosity, gusto, and pluck, a rare blend of character traits that sets the champion apart from the rest of the crowd. The mythical martlet, featured in the SLAC logo, embodies all of these traits as well. Don't be fooled by its small stature or cute, harmless demeanor, the martlet is known for its ability to handle business. So much so, in fact, that the martlet was used in medieval family heraldry to depict the fourth son, traditionally destined to find his own way in the world.
